4-H Healthy Living Ambassador Teen Summit

On April 18, 2015, 53 4-H Healthy Living Ambassadors from Apache, Pima, Pinal, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties hiked the Grand Canyon as part of a statewide teen summit funded by a generous grant from the Walmart Foundation. Some of the ambassadors completed a nine-mile trek to Indian Gardens, some a 12-mile excursion to Plateau Point, and approximately two-dozen completed the 16.7-mile hike down South Kaibab Trail to the Colorado River and back up Bright Angel Trail to the South rim.  Throughout the school year, these teens learned about healthy habits, such as eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking less sugary drinks and being more physically active.  This trip was designed to encourage these teens to be more active while exploring the outdoors.
