Calling all Tucson-area teachers!
Educators are you looking for a fantastic field trip for your students? At TVF students get their hands dirty as they learn about everything it takes to grow healthy food. From composting, to planting, to feeding chickens, students do it all! If that sounds like fun, then it is time to register for students for their 2020-2021 TVF field trip.
We are just finishing up an epic summer filled with safe, in-person programming. We know we will be hosting field trips in the fall, but we are just not quite sure what they will look like. We DO know that they won't start until October 1st. Last school year we offered a virtual field trip, THIS year we would like to get students back on the farm! Our most popular field trip to the farm is our "Growing Forward" field trip.
Dates fill quickly, so reserve yours today! Pre-K through 1st grade teachers should register for "Growing Forward" and 2nd-5th grade teachers should register for "Dig In" (see below). If you are interested in scheduling an in-person or virtual field trip please contact George Stefankis.
This is our K-12 Common Core agriculture and nutrition education program. During this two hour hands-on program, students will rotate through a variety of engaging outdoor classrooms and learning spaces on the farm. In each, they will learn about growing healthy food, building healthy soil, and nutrition- through different lessons including composting and vermi-culture, whole grains and honey bees, chickens, farm chores, and more! Students will also be offered garden-fresh snacks and our famous, farm-raised popcorn.
The program is only offered on Tuesday and Thursdays (with some Wednesdays).
The fee for Growing Forward is $6/student. While we DO NOT charge teachers or chaperones, we DO recommend a ratio of 1 adult to every 6-8 students.
This unique farm-to-table STEAM-based field trip is designed specifically for grades 3-5. Whether your students are graduates of our Growing Forward Program (pre-K-2nd) or first-time visitors to Tucson Village Farm, DIG IN! will engage your students with hands-on agricultural, culinary, nutrition, art, and team building experiences from start to finish.
Located at our new expansion farm and Culinary Education Center (just a stone’s throw from the original “Little” Farm), students will engage in STEAM-based fun and learning as they rotate through dynamic learning stations around the Farm. Students will participate in “Farm Chores” (harvesting, digging, planting, and vegetable identification) in our growing area, learn about compost and vermiculture in our shaded compost area, cook up a delicious, healthy snack in our state of the art commercially certified teaching kitchen, create farm art in our open air art space, explore our Children’s Garden, learn basic nutrition and healthy habits in a fun and engaging way, and participate in team building and life leadership activities in one of our many shaded outdoor classrooms.
Cost: $7/student (includes a healthy snack); Adults are free (no snack included).
