Did you know you can actually camp on the famous Horseshoe Bend? This beginner-friendly kayaking trip from Glen Canyon Dam to Lees Ferry explores one of the most stunning stretches of the Colorado River. You’ll paddle through crystal-clear water, camp under the stars in Horseshoe Bend, learn outdoor skills, and make new friends along the way. Whether you’ve kayaked before or this is your first time, this trip is all about adventure, connection, and having fun on the river. Our first day will be spent traveling from Flagstaff to Lee’s Ferry Boat Ramp, where we will explore slot canyons and historic homesteads. Our early morning boat ride the next morning takes us up river to the bottom of the Glen Canyon Dam, where we will be dropped off to start our float back. We will paddle, view petroglyphs, and set up camp in the middle of the Horseshoe Bend. Our last day includes a beautiful paddle back to the ferry and drive back to Flagstaff where we will host a dinner for participants and parents to reflect and celebrate our adventure.
This year, we request youth be dropped off and picked up in Flagstaff, Arizona. For safety purposes, the exact location of camper pick up and drop off will be released once your camper is fully registered.
If available, your youth can fly in the Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG). Transport to and from the FLG airport is available. Flight reimbursements are available up to $200 upon request.
If no flights are available, we request that parents arrange to drop off their youth in Flagstaff (which is quite lovely in the summer months and would be an awesome getaway while your youth is on their adventure).
We have a limited supply of sun protective clothing. If you are unable to source an item, we are happy to be of assistance. All camping gear is included—just bring yourself, a good hat, sunscreen, and your adventurous spirit!
Your camper does not need to have prior camping experience, nor river rafting experience. This is, however, an adventure. There will be no showers, no real beds, no proper bathroom, and a whole lot of sand.
Campers are provided a sleeping pad and a sleeping bag. We spend most nights sleeping under the stars. Tents are available in the case of heavy rain, but are rarely used.
This adventure is unique in that we will have restrooms available at our campgrounds.
We have perfected our backcountry meal system. We provide all snacks, backcountry meal kits, and water.
